Land has
been the most desired commodity since time began. Nations both primitive and
modern have fought wars (some lasting over 100 years) just to gain control
of some land to farm; to gain a sea port; to gain gold, coral, steel,
timber, or some other minerals - but mostly control of the land has been the
goal of mankind.
Many nations had feudal war
lords who controlled vast holdings within these nations. The ordinary
citizens lived and worked for these feudal war lords.
Not until the American
Revolution in 1776 did the concept of individual rights to own land begin to
become a universal idea. Therefore, the ownership of land as we know it, is
a relatively recent idea in the total history of man.
